Vision Insurance is Something You Need to Look Into

Feb 03 2012 Published by admin under Eye Insurance

Have you looked into your medical insurance policy lately? Does it cover such things as; Lasik eye surgery, glasses or catastrophic eye problems? Most medical policies do not have these coverages. Even the best medical coverage policies do not always cover such things. Perhaps you need to look into vision insurance and see if you can get the coverage you may need in case of problems with your eyes.

Of course you will need to talk to an expert insurance and it is best to talk with someone before such issues with your vision arise. One eye insurance policy I looked into had a monthly membership fee which was nominal and low deductibles too. I asked my insurance person about this and she told me she had even a better plan that what I had found searching on the Internet, which tells me that shopping around makes a lot of sense.

First, review your current medical policy, then study what is available on the Internet a little and then once you have a pretty good handle on it write down a list of serious questions to ask and get the answers you need from an insurance expert.

Sometimes employer medical plans include such things, but not always and for us self-employed folks well we are clearly on our own when it comes to such things, but we must not forget our eyes.

Running a business blind is truly visionless indeed. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Palming is a Nice Way to Improve Vision

Aug 08 2011 Published by admin under Eyeglass Frames

As for the ways of improving visions without glasses, we have many alternatives. The cause for bad vision is our bad habits in using eyes. Sometimes, we are too rude to our eyes. In fact, they are so fragile that they are in need of delicate care.

Among all the alternatives, palming is really a very natural method. In fact, our eyes are moving at any time, even in our sleeping time. This physiological process is automatically operated, for our eyes must maintain sufficient moisture. Though this process can not be halted, we have some method to slow down it. And this can help to relax our eyes.

First, mind relaxation is very essential for eyes. Generally, our eyes will move with the paces of our minds. That’s to say, if we think wildly, our eyes will also move wildly, too. Luckily, palming can help to slow down these rhythms. A twenty or thirty minutes’ palming can help you relax completely.

Before palming, we should rub our hands, so as to make them smooth and warm. Later, palm two hands on eyes respectively. However, palming is not touching. The hands should cover eyes like cups, as no more pressure is needed. Still, do not cause any stress. We should put our elbows on something.

After that, we need complete relaxation. With eyes closed, we should think that every muscle, in our bodies, from top to the toe, begins to relax. Then, if we are completely relaxed, we can feel the deep darkness in our eyes. For the first images in our eyes are grey in the beginning, and they become darker as we relax.

We should not think anything, forgetting everything that can bother us. And what we should do is to see darkness of the images in our minds. Thinking of some pleasant pictures can also help us to be more relaxed. This process is suggested to last ten to twenty minutes.

After finishing the exercising, everything around will be much clearer as we open our eyes. Objects will present themselves much nicer in color, shape, etc. That proves our visions are improved.

Eyeglass Prescription – Understanding What it Means

Jul 31 2011 Published by admin under Eyeglass Frames

You recently had your vision checked and were handed a prescription with numbers and abbreviations on it and wondered; “What does this mean?” The information is related to your eye exam and how your eyeglass lenses are to be manufactured and placed into your eyeglass frames. Let me clear up what this small piece of paper is saying. It is actually easier then reading an eye chart!

A common example of an eyeglass prescription for someone over 40 will have the following information:

OD -4.50 -1.00 X 160

OS -4.25 -1.50 X 175

Add +2.00

PD 63

Without having you take a course in optometry, let me explain in layman terms what this all means. First off, the OD and OS is Latin for oculus deter which means right eye and oculus sinister which means left eye. Now the number next to the letters OD or OS stand for you prescription strength in each of your eyes and technically they are called spherical power. It is common to have two different strengths of spherical power for each eye, therefore do not be alarmed if they are different numbers.

Now if you prescription number is a negative number, it just means that you are nearsighted. This means that you can see things close up, but you have a hard time focusing on things far away. The opposite is true if the number is a positive number, where you are farsighted and therefore have a hard time seeing things close up.

Not everyone has a prescription with the next column of numbers, but if you do, it basically relates to a blur that you have in your vision which is called an astigmatism. Although you may need glasses which have corrective powers to see things either far away or close up; your vision still can be blurred due to an abnormal curve in your cornea. It is this column of numbers that indicate the incremental amount of power, which is called cylinder power, that will correct the blur that is in your vision.

The last column of the numbers simply indicate on a scale of 0 to 180 degrees, where on your eye that you have the abnormal curve and where your eyeglass lenses need to be adjusted to correct the blur or astigmatism.

If you are over 40, it is common to have the next number, which is indicated after the word add. It is basically adding more power to you lens so you can read or see things up close.

Easy LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

Jul 21 2011 Published by admin under Eye Surgery

LASIK laser eye surgery, or also known as a type of laser eye surgery, is deliberated to reduce people’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The undergoing of this is best known as LASIK, which stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. It improves short-sighted and long-sighted people, although short-sighted has a higher rate of success. More than 90% of people going through LASIK laser eye surgery can expect to achieve half of their vision to their full vision or better rejuvenated. People with long-sightedness still benefit from the surgery, although such success of curing short-sight is not guaranteed. The success of this shows that 98% of people, under all conditions, who take the surgery can legally drive a car without glasses or contact lenses.

An Excimer Laser is used to reshape the cornea by vaporising tissue to remove irregular shaping and so light is correctly focused on the retina, therefore improving eyesight and resulting in a clearer image. Local Anaesthetic eye drops will be applied to anaesthetise the eye, making this procedure almost pain free. Plastic, clear, shield-like contacts will be placed over your eyes to seal the surgery work and removed on your visit the following day. It is also immediate, so that when you walk out of the surgery you will be able to see clearer, although 4 days is advised, before the full effects of the surgery are noted, as the cornea will be slightly swollen and take 3-4 days to regenerate. It is a short procedure taking just 20-30 minutes and patients are accepted to leave in a little over and hour.

The technology of altering the cornea was first thought of in 1940 and took up to 1990 until the LASIK laser eye surgery was fully developed and began operating on people in 1992. Many thousands of Australians each year and millions of people around the world are now choosing, if not have already chosen to undergo LASIK eye surgery, the vast majority being very happy with the results and would recommend and repeat it.

Determining whether LASIK eye surgery is right depends on certain guidelines. You must be of 18 years or older and if you are over 55 years old, seeking advice from the clinic about this is advised as they will assess if you can undergo the surgery and make recommendations.

Medical eye conditions and general health issues such as pregnancy or breastfeeding should be consulted with the clinic also. Information seminars on LASIK laser eye surgery are extremely helpful if thinking about going through the procedure and you can usually find a local seminar by searching for it on the internet, or consulting your local clinic. Assessments can be booked at your chosen treatment centre and you will be advised of all the information and expectations from your individual surgery.

Individual Vision Insurance

Do you wear glasses or contacts? If so, you probably make periodic visits to the optometrist. Here you will have checkups and make sure your eyes are in good condition. They’ll also give you a higher prescription for glasses or contact lenses as necessary. If you deal with this expense, you know that it can add up quickly.

Laser Eye Surgery Risks

Mar 28 2011 Published by admin under Cataract Surgery

Lasers have made a revolution in the field of surgeries and specially eye surgery as they have made it very easy to make an accurate cut on the skin. The other good thing for their so intensified use in surgical process is that the recovery of the patients after a surgery-using laser is at a much higher rate than that with normal surgical process. But with the good points there are some laser eye surgery risks involved in this surgical process.

The biggest lasik eye surgery risk is that patient can experience a vision loss, although it is observed by a very small fraction of patients but still it can happen. The more horrifying part is that this vision loss cannot be corrected once a person experiences it not even with another surgery of eyes or with contacts, or even with glasses.

The second surgery risk involved is that the patient may develop the risk of dry eyes. In this condition a person might not be able to see properly and may even develop the problem of permanent blurring. A person may even feel irritation in the eyes, as the eyes are now not able to keep themselves moist as they could earlier. But, this problem can be solved.

The person may even develop similar problem of double vision or halos. This problem has a main hit at the nights when the person is not able to see things properly sue to lack of light. The person might see well under proper light.

There is another laser eye risk that has been reported after the laser eye surgery, this is of sensitivity towards the light. A person is not able to see in the background of bright color. Imagine what can happen if a person with this problem is driving a vehicle and that person has such an attack.

So, it is advisable for everyone that one needs to go for repudiated laser eye surgery centers to avoid such risks, as it sometimes lead to death.
