Moving Home – A Checklist

Oct 18 2011 Published by admin under Opticians

There is so much to think about when moving home, especially between exchange and completion which can often be a matter of two or three weeks, or sometimes even less.

Sometimes there are things that can only be done once contracts have been exchanged, which means once they are, the race is on to get through that checklist. However, if you have your list ready in advance, you can at least be fully prepared!

Here are some basic things to cover once contracts have been exchanged:

Confirm your booking with the removals or van hire company Arrange for your post to be forwarded to your new address Arrange for your telephone, cable or satellite television and internet service to be transferred to your new address Settle up with any local services such as newspaper deliveries, window cleaner, milkman, gardener, etc. Organise buildings and contents insurance for your new property Advise your car insurance company and roadside assistance provider of your change of address Contact your bank, building society, credit card provider, mobile phone provider, local authority, Revenue and Customs, accountant, etc. to give them your new address Let your employer know your new address Arrange to change doctor, dentist and optician if necessary Notify the DVLA of your change of address and arrange to have your licence and log book updated Get in touch with utility providers to arrange services in your new property and advise current providers of your move. Make a note to take meter readings just before you move out of your property Make sure you give everyone your mobile number in case they need to contact you on moving day Put the telephone numbers of anyone you may need on moving day into your mobile phone contacts list: solicitor, estate agent, removals company, etc. Keep valuables and important documents to hand: passport, driving licence, money, credit cards, jewellery, etc. Make arrangements for any pets to be looked after on the day of the move or arrange kennel or cattery accommodation for them Arrange for children to be taken care of on moving day When packing, check each and every room of the house to make sure nothing is left behind. Do not forget the loft, basement, shed and garage! Before leaving make sure all the windows and doors are locked Take the keys to the estate agents, and pick up the keys to your new property! Move in, put the kettle on and enjoy your new home!

Buying Contact Lenses – Things to Keep in Mind When Choosing the Right Type of Lenses

Jul 12 2011 Published by admin under Opticians

Contact lenses will considerably improve your vision without you having to wear glasses. They are extremely lightweight, and they offer you a full range of sight and mobility.

You can buy contact lenses in a number of different ways. You can purchase them online, which is what most people are doing. Companies usually offer hundreds of contact lenses, which they deliver right to your house. When you order online you can get an excellent price.

You can also buy your contact lenses at your optician’s office. Or you can buy them at a local store, for example Wal-Mart.

If you shop around, you can usually uncover some fantastic deals for your contacts. The prices vary depending on the brand and type. The latest brands of lenses are usually expensive.

You must have a prescription in order to buy contacts. Your optician will let you know if you can wear contacts. Different contact lenses suit different people.

Here are few things to keep in mind when choosing the right type of lenses for you.

1. What is your lifestyle? For example, if you use a computer all day then you might consider wearing glasses because computer use can dry your eyes out. On the other hand, daily disposable contacts will be easier to play sport in than glasses.

2. Dry eyes problem. Get lenses that mainly contain silicone. You can also use contact lens comfort drops.

3. What about allergies? Allergies can make your eyes very sensitive. In this case, you should choose daily disposable lenses.

4. What about your job? If you have a job which means that you have to stay up all night, get extended wear lenses. These lenses can be worn continuously for a certain period of time.

5. Think about hygiene. If your fingernails get dirty at your work or if you smoke then daily disposable lenses are the way to go.

Getting Cheap Contact Lenses Without Compromising on Quality and Safety

Jul 01 2011 Published by admin under Opticians

Do you think you are spending far too much money on contacts every month? If yes, then you would be relieved to know that there are a few ways by which you can get cheap contact lenses without compromising on quality or running the risk of damaging your eyes.

The common perception is that if you buy from your optician, then there is absolutely no chance of getting good deals. That may not be entirely true – because if you opt to buy a huge quota from your optician’s clinic then there is a very real chance of him being able to match the price you are getting from any other outside retailer. Apart from the chance of getting them direct from your doctor, the other upside is that there is absolutely no risk of buying the wrong lens. Also, the box can be used to buy successive pairs from either online or offline stores.

You may also opt to purchase from an internet store. The only downside to buying from the internet is that there is a comparatively higher chance of getting cheated and palmed off with something you did not order. To avert any undesirable online shopping experiences, you will need to ensure that you are buying from a reliable and reputable online seller. On the other hand, the up side is that the internet is a haven for really low cost options; and that’s primarily because of the fact that these online shops have a very low cost of doing business as compared to their “real world” counterparts.

The third option is via mail order centres. These wholesalers manage to secure very good prices directly from the manufacturers – meaning that they are in a sound position to give you a good deal. As is the case with buying from the WWW, buying from this channel too comes with a pinch of risk.

In your efforts, you may also want to check your insurance policy to see if it covers these products. Usually a health insurance policy would cover glasses and lenses (provided the lenses are for vision correction purposes). If you have chosen to order online for cheap contact lenses on via a mail order wholesaler, be sure to take into consideration the delivery charges, freight insurance charges and return policies etc.

Wearing Contact Lenses for the First Time

Apr 13 2011 Published by admin under Opticians

Many people want to take advantage of the benefits of wearing contact lenses but are unsure whether they will be able to wear them without feeling pain or discomfort. Wearing contact lenses for the first time can actually be a very rewarding experience.

The first step that you need to take before considering wearing contact lenses is to visit an optician, or suitably qualified eye specialist. They’ll check your eyes, not just to see what sort of prescription you require, but to ensure that contact lenses will be suitable from a medical point of view.

Most opticians will also advise on the type of lenses that might be suitable for your requirements.

When you come to collect your lenses your optician should explain to you how to use and look after your new lenses. It’s important that you pay attention so that you know how to use your contact lenses safely and to ensure that you wear them correctly.

These days, contact lens technology has come on leaps and bounds, ensuring that the vast majority of users wear their lenses without experiencing any pain. If, when you initially start wearing lenses, they do feel uncomfortable in any way then do not hesitate to contact your optician or eye specialist to check that all is as it should be.

Don’t forget that contact lenses are designed to be worn for a particular amount of time. Your optician will advise you on how long they should be worn for – it’s important that you follow any such instructions, for your health and comfort.

Once you start to wear your lenses regularly you’ll wonder how you ever managed to do without them! You’ll also find that it’s possible to purchase a varied selection of lenses that allow you to make your mark, with many patterned and colored lenses being available.

Enjoy wearing your contacts and look forward to a brighter future!

Choosing the Most Fashionable Eyeglasses Frames

Apr 03 2011 Published by admin under Eyeglass Frames

There once was a time when eyeglasses frames had much the same shape and were anything but stylish. Those times have long since passed. The new frames that are on the market are not only fashionable, but some of them are actually glamorous.

Eyeglasses frames have surpassed the frames of past eras in the area of fashion and fit. They offer many different frames in a variety of shapes and colors. There are frames that have the names of some of our favorite name brand merchandise and celebrities and there are frames with images of endearing characters. Frames today definitely have a lot more to offer.

Choosing the right frames

When choosing the right eyeglasses frames you will want to make sure that you are very selective. After all, you are most likely going to have the frames for a while and you don’t want to be stuck with a pair of eyeglasses that don’t suit you. There will be several factors for you to consider.

Shape of your face: There are many different face shapes and the right frames need to be chosen for each one. If you have a round face then you should choose frames that will make your face look long. For squared faces the best frames are ones that are slim or narrow. Cat eye type frames are great for anyone who has a diamond shaped face. Your optician will help you in choosing the frames that best fit your face and will most likely have many options to pick from.

Color and complexion: Just as with cosmetics you will have to know the correct color that goes along with your face. Some people are warmer toned like reds or orange, while others are cool like blue or lavender. Knowing your base color will help in choosing the right frames.

Frame size: Obviously you will not want to pick out frames that are so huge that they take your entire face over. Eyeglasses should be the correct scale for your head size.

Frame material: This is very important since you will want frames that don’t feel too heavy or don’t cause a reaction on your skin. There are several materials that are used to make up eyeglass frames. Nylon frames are great for young children since it is very hard to break them. If you want a frame that is more flexible then you may want to pick flexon frames. If you have lenses that will weight quite a bit then you will want titanium frames.
